✊ PEOPLE OVER LOBBIES!
🔥 As Europe burns, with record-breaking forest fires wreaking havoc, the European Commission still chooses to welcome in the arsonists. As firemen and -women are sent to their deaths to save us from the fire, our European policy-makers still leave the door wide open for those who are causing the fires: the fossil fuels industry
⚠️ More than 900 meetings with fossil fuels lobbyists in the last 5 years alone!

The Commission, together with the other European institutions, still
maintains close ties with an industry that’s complicit in the
destruction of the living world and undermining a liveable future for
all. The ones with real power over European policy are the fossil fuels
and other corporate lobbyists, while the rest of us have to deal with
the disastrous effects of their business.
☝️ In the name of Extinction Rebellion Belgium, but above all in the general interest, we requested a meeting with the President of the Commission to discuss our 4 demands, which we submitted with our invitation :
- To refuse access to ecocidal lobbies in the European institutions
- To stop subsidizing fossil and other polluting industries
- To stop the destruction of ecosystems on land and in the sea and facilitate their recovery
- To facilitate citizens’ assemblies to reign in the power of polluting industries
But she refused. Her priorities lay elsewhere.
