Rebels For Life

Red, Blue and Green

Together, in silence, for our living planet.

Born out of the Extinction Rebellion (XR) civil disobedience movement and created
in the United Kingdom in 2019, the Red Rebel Brigade is now active in 23 countries.
It supports organisations demanding concrete actions to tackle the environmental emergency.

THE RED REBELS

Through their silent procession, the Red Rebels move slowly forward to draw attention to the violence inflicted upon the planet and all living beings.
Red is the colour of our love for our planet and symbolises the life force that connects us to every species.
In the face of the climate emergency and the collapse of biodiversity, the Reds denounce the inaction of decision-makers. Words are no longer enough. The Red Rebels create powerful imagery: a visual shock that reaches both hearts and minds.
Their silence is a cry of alarm. Their slowness, running counter to the “ever faster” pace of modern life, challenges us and invites reflection.
Body language, slowness and silence: three ingredients that inspire respect and empathy among the public and the police alike.
The impact of their presence is palpable.
Their gestures and expressions embody both sadness and anger.
Within every Red flows blood and beats a heart.

THE BLUE REBELS

Alongside the Red Rebels, our neighbours from the Netherlands support us with their Blue Rebels. Inspired by the same concept, they shine a light on the immeasurable value of water: the source of life, and now under threat.
Every drop counts. It is from water that the infinite diversity of life on Earth first emerged.
Blue and green echo one another as the dominant colours in nature’s palette.

THE EARTH REBELS

More recently, Belgium has broken new ground by creating a collective of artivists celebrating the diversity of Life.
Resilient and hopeful, these Earth Rebels move more quickly; their gestures are livelier, reflecting nature’s ability to regenerate itself. Their energy is contagious, for all forms of life flow through their veins: land animals, aquatic creatures, birds, insects, and plants alike. Life itself pulses within them. In the face of despair, their response is a powerful one.

RED, BLUE and GREEN celebrate our planet that is both powerful and fragile.
Together, the “Rebels for Life” embody hope in action.
